PRESIDENT’S CORNER
A couple of year’s ago the Broward Chapter was fortunate enough to receive about half-a-dozen noon time CPE sessions from FAU professors and/or instructors. Several weeks ago I had my annual luncheon with the FAU Director of Graduate Accounting and mentioned that our chapter could benefit from some more of this top instruction. The response was almost immediate.
The next meeting will feature William T. Urquhart, CPA, who not only is a full-time FAU instructor with a Masters of Professional Accounting from the University of Texas (Austin), but who also maintains a full-time tax practice. Speaking on “Basis in Publicly Traded Partnerships,” Bill chose a subject that is timely and getting more scrutiny from the IRS. I have noted that tax software is starting to recognize this problem and in fact recall a new client who had 13 K-1s with no known basis for any of them (and was expecting a bill from me comparable to having a W-2 and Schedule A). Sound familiar? Oh well, we each have our war stories.
I am sure you recognize this is a great subject so tell your friends and of course I will make sure the meeting ends on time so you can get back to your own practice.
By the way, the “Focus” portion of our meetings is on hold until after the April meeting. If there is something you would like us to cover just drop a note to ea@familytax.com and of course if you know of someone who would make an engaging speaker please let us know. We really want you to look forward to our meetings and subjects.
See you March 2.
