I would like to thank Cherene Deem, Senior Stakeholder Liaison Specialist, who spoke to us in our last meeting about “Relevant Tax Updates including Fresh Start Initiative and the Latest Updates for Paid Preparers”. It made for an interesting meeting! Again, we had a wonderful member turn out. Let’s continue to participate and infuse our chapter with energy and information.
The 2012 IRS Stakeholder Liaison and FSEA 1040 Forms Workshop was held in Deerfield Beach, Boca Raton on January 12 and 13. Each day earned those who attended 8 hours of CPE credit.
Day 1 the IRS had representatives from the Exam Division, Legal Council and Stakeholder Liaison with Tax and PTIN updates. A webinar was offered that qualified for one hour of ethics. There was also a Representation Shareshop which was a two hour review of the IRS presentations and a chance to discuss various related topics that affect our practice.
Day 2 Jerry Joyce presented the 2012 FSEA Forms Workshop. It was a complete review of the forms and schedules needed to prepare 2011 Form 1040 tax returns. Also discussed were the many deductions and credits that will expire in 2012 and 2013 (unless extensions are approved by our politicians). There was also a review of the 2010 tax filing season where issues such as Earned Income Tax Credit reporting and recordkeeping, identity theft, IRS initiatives, dependents and much more was discussed.
The accommodations and food during this workshop was fantastic. I enjoyed attending these two days and want to thank all of those from our chapter who attended as well. I am very proud of our chapter and the attendance for the Liaison portion (Day 1) of the workshop was impressive.
The month of January is officially behind us and we are entering into month two of tax season. Hope everyone is keeping up with all the workload. Please share any good questions you might have at our February meeting. I am sure there have been many interesting issues that have come across our desks that we can share.
